Zach Mezger Inspires Vast Baseball Family

The news that Tracy Smith was leaving Indiana for Arizona State hit the Mezger family hard. The Smiths had become an extension of the Mezger family, and so had the Indiana baseball program that Smith led. Kelly Mezger dreaded having to break the news to her son, Zach, who was much more than Indiana baseball’s No. 1 fan. He was an unofficial assistant coach, and a brother to the players on the team.
