Shotgun Spratling played baseball at Division III Maryville (Tenn.) College. The final pitch of his collegiate career resulted in a groundout to end the 2007 Great South Athletic Conference Tournament, giving the Scots the GSAC championship. He attended graduate school at the University of Southern California and has covered college baseball in Southern California since 2010.
