HOUSTON — The Division I college baseball season doesn’t start for another two weeks, but other ranks of the sport are already in session, including junior college, where one of the best early-season showdowns at any level of college baseball took place on Friday night between San Jacinto (Texas) CC lefthander Devin Smeltzer, a Texas Tech signee, and LSU signee and Grayson (Texas) CC righthander Kyle Weatherly.
